The importance of regularly changing the batteries in your security system

You've gone a long way to ensuring that the risk of theft, vandalism or break-in is greatly diminished. However before you start patting yourself on the back, there are a few things you need to be aware of in order to ensure the long life and continued efficiency of your security solutions. In order to make sure that your new alarm is operating correctly, you will want to make sure that all the batteries in your system are charged and operational Wireless security systems are great for areas where it might be difficult or impossible to run a cable to, but it important that you change the batteries in these systems at least once every two years. Bosch wireless is particularly reliable, and will send a message to your keypad whenever batteries are low and need replacing. Your security control panel will also come equipped with a backup battery in the case of a power o

Safety Watch - keeping our elderly safe and providing 24/7 peace of mind

Elderly people offer a lot to society - wisdom, experience, knowledge - and it is important that we take care of our aged community to ensure they feel safe and secure at all times. According to the University of Melbourne, 13 per cent of Australia's population in 2010 was over the age of 65 years old, and that number is predicted to rise to around 20 per cent by 2050. That is why many companies are now offering innovative new technology aimed at ensuring quality of life for the elderly, such as the senior watch function which is provided free of charge with the Bosch Ultima 880, Bosch Solution 16 Plus and Bosch Solution 16i  home alarm systems . Many of us have a parent, grandparent or other aged person, who we would like to be able to check in with regularly to ensure they are safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, life often gets in the way. With work and home commitments, sometimes it is just not possible to take time out of every day to visit our elderly relatives i

Break and enter reports highlight value of CCTV security system

A 16-year-old male is due to appear in court after being arrested in relation to suspicion of breaking and entering earlier this week. The New South Wales police issued a statement Tuesday (July 3) regarding the arrest, in which they seized televisions, a video game console, mobile phones and other expensive electronic items. A motorcycle, three mountain bikes and jewellery were also located at the scene. "Police will allege the items were the proceeds of break and enters on homes in Matraville and Kensington during the past week," the report reads. Incidents like this are unfortunately common in New South Wales. Last week three youths were charged with an alleged aggravated break and enter in St George which resulted in the theft of two antique firearms. It is always good to hear when the perpetrators of incidents such as this are caught and brought to justice, but the news does reinforce the importance of ensuring your home or business is safe and secure at all times. Summer security tips: keeping your home safe

With summer around the corner, most of us are probably too preoccupied with scheduling vacations and planning for the stresses of Christmas to worry about home   security solutions   right now. However the holiday season is often a major period for burglaries and break-ins, and it is worthwhile taking the time to think about how you can reduce your risk of becoming a victim. The best offence against crime is a good defence, so with that in mind here are a few simple security tips that can help keep your property safe this summer. A bit of gardening goes a long way One of the best ways to deter burglars is to make your house look lived in, and you can easily do this by thinking about the way you take care of your lawn. You will want to keep things relatively well maintained, by mowing the grass and keeping the hedges trimmed, but it can also be to your advantage to leave a bit of mess around. By scattering a few expendable kids toys around the front yard you can make it appear as if

Keeping track with a self-monitored SMS notification alarm system

Nothing is more important in life than family, and parents will know how nerve racking it can be not knowing where your children are or what they are doing. Of course you can't follow them around for their whole life, as they need freedom and room to grow, but at the same time it is important that you keep track of when they are home and when they are not in order to make sure they are safe. One way you might want to do this is with a self-monitored  home alarm system , which can offer you updates via SMS text message as to whenever someone activates or deactivates your  security solution . This is fantastic for busy working parents who might need to leave their children at home alone for a few hours each day after school, as it keeps them informed and gives them peace of mind. But self-monitored home alarm systems aren't just for parents, they are also great for keeping track of elderly relatives and making sure they are safe and well. Employers might even want to

Help is on the way - What a panic button can do for you

Protecting your business and employees from criminals is all about preparation, which is why many Australian shop owners are now investing in  business security  solutions. By installing a comprehensive and reliable alarm system, in combination with well positioned and correctly installed  CCTV  cameras, you can deter criminals while also ensuring that, should a crime occur, the police will be armed with all the information they need to conduct a full investigation. However business owners looking to take their security to the next level and offer their employees full peace of mind and safety 24/7 might consider investing in a panic button. The  Panic Button ND100  is a great option as it is small, easily hidden and is connected straight into an intrusion panel.   With a panic button such as this close by, employees will be able to subtly manually trigger an alarm should they find themselves in any sort of danger. In an armed robbery situation, it is important that staff members co-op

Safety in darkness: the advantage of infrared CCTV cameras

While criminals might target your business at any time, day or night, it is no secret that they often choose to operate under the cover of darkness. Night offers protection from prying eyes, with fewer potential witnesses, and all too often people arrive at their place of work in the morning only to find signs of an intrusion and missing property or vandalism. That is why it is important to ensure you are monitoring your business at all times, and the best way to do this is with an infrared  CCTV  camera. These work differently to regular cameras as they are able to detect and convert heat energy into an electrical signal, which can then be converted into a representative image. Infrared cameras are an ideal option for outdoor shooting as they offer a far superior picture in low light conditions. However modern infrared cameras are also adept at indoor shooting as well, or for capturing any area where variable light conditions might make a regular CCTV camera less ideal. On

Daylight savings reminder: check your home alarm

Next Sunday (October 7) marks the start of daylight savings for the summer of 2012-13, and households in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and the ACT will all be setting their clocks forward one hour in order to take advantage of the warmer weather. Daylight savings is a fantastic opportunity for you to perform a few important tasks around the home. For example, we are often encouraged to change the batteries in our smoke alarms at this time of year, to ensure they are fully charged and ready for an emergency. Another thing you might want to check, and something that many people fail to take into consideration, is whether the batteries in your  home alarm system  are fully charged and working correctly. Wireless alarm systems  are a great choice for people wanting to cut down on installation and reduce the amount of cables in their homes; however the trade off is that these systems rely on battery power. If you have an alarm system with old, expired or dead batteries, then

Top tips for holiday security

With winter in full swing, many of you might be feeling the urge to get out of Australia and take a holiday somewhere where the sun is shining. Keeping your property safe from burglary and vandalism when on holiday can be a challenge, but there are a few simple steps you can take to help minimise the risk. Install a home alarm system Obviously the best way to keep your property secure is to have a strong  s
