Break and enter reports highlight value of CCTV security system

A 16-year-old male is due to appear in court after being arrested in relation to suspicion of breaking and entering earlier this week.

The New South Wales police issued a statement Tuesday (July 3) regarding the arrest, in which they seized televisions, a video game console, mobile phones and other expensive electronic items.

A motorcycle, three mountain bikes and jewellery were also located at the scene.

"Police will allege the items were the proceeds of break and enters on homes in Matraville and Kensington during the past week," the report reads.

Incidents like this are unfortunately common in New South Wales. Last week three youths were charged with an alleged aggravated break and enter in St George which resulted in the theft of two antique firearms.

It is always good to hear when the perpetrators of incidents such as this are caught and brought to justice, but the news does reinforce the importance of ensuring your home or business is safe and secure at all times.

Having a CCTV system can be an excellent way to not only ward off potential thieves but also ensure that if a break-in does occur, the criminals can be found and dealt with by police as swiftly as possible.

With a range of options available to suit your needs, a CCTV system can be as simplistic or as complex as you desire.

Some important things to consider when selecting a CCTV system include how well the camera functions in low or high levels of light - especially important if the area you wish to keep secure receives a lot of sun.

You will also want to consider the image quality that you desire, as well as how you plan on reviewing footage. Some systems even offer remote viewing via your smartphone, a great tool for ensuring peace of mind and security for your home or business.

Do Wireless Alarms Need Wi-Fi?

Wireless alarm systems will not require Wi-Fi , at least not to communicate with its wireless components. The only time a wireless alarm would need Wi-Fi  is if it reports back to an app on a customer’s smartphone, to alert them of an intrusion or to allow them to arm and disarm the system remotely. For the system to properly talk with its wireless components , it would require a receiver. In some instances this receiver can be built into the main control panel, but more often than not it is a separate device that must be wired in.  This receiver uses RF frequencies to communicate with each wireless device, which will have a wireless transmitter inside.  These wireless devices have the same function as their hard wired options, for example a wireless detector is able to detect movement the same way a wired detector will.  The difference is how it transmits this signal back to the panel.  The hard wired detector creates an open circuit when it detects movement, tripping the alarm ins
